Often, when I'm writing a document with Abiword or OpenOffice, is possible that accidentally I touch the touchpad, moving the cursor and mucking up the work... it happens, right?

Well, there are two useful tools that disable the touchpad when I'm typing on keyboard.

Usually these tools are installed by default. If not, type in a terminal:

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Make sure the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf presents the following string:

Option "SHMConfig" "on"

To disable the touchpad, type in a terminal:

synclient TouchpadOff=1

The touchpad will be locked until you type:

synclient TouchpadOff=0

Good, but
it's boring repeat these commands every time. Fortunately, we have "syndaemon" that, with some parameters, blocks the touchpad for a lapse of time.
For example with this command:

syndaemon -i 3.0

the touchpad
freezes for 3 seconds.

Nice tools :D

Source.

Since the release of issue 6.06, Ubuntu has supported the Sun architecture, in addition to the i386 and amd64 architectures.
As you can see from this announcement of Technical Board, the next LTS release of Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" will arrive without any support for Sun's processors.

Hi all... I would update my blog with the release of GNOME 2.22. I've followed the development directly on Hardy and I'm happy to announce that.
The main news (for me) are:

  • GVFS: New virtual filesystem
  • Cheese: Take a picture
  • Anjuta IDE: Programming will be easier
For more information about GNOME 2.22, see the "release notes".

Bye :D

I want to post the same presentation used during a special IRC meeting of Ubuntu:

"Hello, my name is Paolo Naldini, I'm 16 and I live in Italy ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NaldiniPaolo ).
I joined Ubuntu on Februray 2006 with Ubuntu 5.10 "The Breezy Badger" where I began to give support to the Italian Forum of Ubuntu. After that I tried to help in other support channels too.
After about a year, I obtained Ubuntu Italian membership.
At the moment I focus on the translations in Rosetta and on the Italian wiki. The universe of "packaging" has always fascinated me but I don't have enough time to make all these things at the same time (I also attend high school :D ), let's see what will be in the future.
In my wiki home page it's possible to see some of my translations made for Italian wiki, you will be able to find other translations in my launchpad account (https://launchpad.net/~hattory/).
I'm waiting to join in the Ubuntu Italian Translator.
I joined Ubuntu Italian Promoters Team too, where I'm working to the Stickers Project and the Cd Ubuntu Project."
